Reclaimed Wood Flooring

We carry two types of reclaimed wood: river wood and from old buildings. The river wood flooring has been harvested from the bottom of the Ottawa River. Starting in the early 1800s, when lumberjacks would ride log booms down the river each year, about 5% of the timber would sink to the riverbed. Fortunately for our discerning customers, that old-growth wood is now being recovered, kiln-dried and transformed into exquisite earth-friendly flooring. And because the reclaimed white pine has absorbed various minerals in the water during its tenure in the Ottawa River, it's significantly harder than new white pine (475 on the Janka scale, as opposed to 350 for new pine). It looks absolutely stunning with an all natural oil and wax finish.

The reclaimed Elm and Ash woods from old buildings and factories are durable, dimensionally stable and full of character, unlike many of the new wood flooring products on the market. Some boards have been drying for 80 years, making them less likely to warp, crack or split than new wood. You get quality flooring and a great feeling because by using reclaimed wood you are saving our forests.
